Breuzinho: the Amazon’s own copal
Breuzinho is the resin of Protium heptaphyllum, a tree spread across the Amazon basin and the Brazilian cerrado. Local communities have gathered the hardened sap from its trunk for generations, and it is often described as the copal of Brazil — the same role that copal plays in Mexican and Central American tradition.
Burned on its own, breuzinho gives a clean resinous smoke with a faint citrus-pine edge, lighter and drier than benzoin. It is the resin most associated with limpeza — clearing a room, a tool or an object before use — and it appears in the base of nearly every incense in the Fênix line.
Here it takes the lead rather than the supporting role, which gives the stick a noticeably fresher and more transparent smoke than the darker resins of the range.
