Gerânio: the rose note that is not a rose
Rose geranium, Pelargonium graveolens, is a South African plant whose leaves — not its flowers — carry the scent. Crushed between the fingers they release something startlingly close to rose, with a green herbal edge underneath that keeps it from being cloying.
This is why geranium has been used for centuries as the affordable companion to rose in perfumery, and why it works so well in incense: it gives a floral character that real rose petals simply cannot deliver once burned.
In the Fênix blend the leaf oil sits over the usual resin base, producing a smoke that is floral at the top and grounded underneath — softer and more domestic than the ceremonial resins of the range.
