Sálvia Branca: a North American plant in a Brazilian blend
White sage, Salvia apiana, grows on the dry hillsides of California and the American Southwest. It holds deep ceremonial significance for a number of Native American nations, where it is used in cleansing practices — a context worth naming, and worth treating with respect rather than as decoration.
The leaf burns to a pale, herbaceous smoke: dry, slightly camphorous, cleaner and sharper than the resins. It reads as astringent rather than sweet, which is why it is so often chosen for clearing a room before anything else happens in it.
The Fênix workshop blends it over the same Brazilian resin base used across the line, which softens the sharpness and makes the stick burn more evenly than loose leaf.
